The problem facing the Nairobi youth of today is widening unemployment, deepening poverty both of which combine to be the root cause of crime, lawlessness, social delinquency and decease, ethnic strive, nepotism and political intolerance. This problem can be partly attributed the neglect of the youth by the government, churches and society in general.
One reality is that the Nairobi youth are too poor to fight back and are very vulnerable to all forms of manipulation. Another reality also is that the Nairobi youth appear to have been pushed to the wall. These two realities has provoked a reaction that the Nairobi Youth have banded together and forged a threat to peace and progress of the Nairobi population that made life a misery that it is. Most of the youth have formed a pack that litters the slums ready to strike against a society that made life unbearable for them. They are fighting back neglect, poverty, unemployment, their low status and everything denied by the “Big people”. They are also fighting an identity.
In general, the trend of youth involvement in development activities; whether social, cultural, economic and/or political events have been encouraging. The youth are central in taking the lead in the course of change; and here I am talking about the new order of doing things, a new way of life, a new style of thinking, a change of attitude and the making of a new people, a new Kenya and a new life full of hope.
I may sound monotonous when I venture to dismiss the teaser forgot to add that tomorrow never comes.
